Speeding up your metabolism is critical to a successful fat loss program. In addition to weight training, it’s important to eat small, well-balanced, and nutritious snacks every three hours or so. This can really speed up your metabolism and help your fat burning program.
Eating every three hours can be incredibly difficult, especially if you have a busy schedule or a generally hectic lifestyle. Unless you have a ton of time, eating proper meals every few hours is nearly impossible.
One possible solution to this problem is to use meal replacements (MRP’s). Meal replacements are pre-packaged powdered drink mixes that you mix with water, milk, or juice and then drink in the place of a meal. They are convenient, inexpensive, and most taste pretty good.
Instead of struggling to make six meals a day, why not make four meals and drink two meal replacement shakes? It’s easier, faster, and MRP’s are typically designed with perfect nutrition in mind: high-protein, medium-carb, and low-fat. They generally range from 200 to 400 calories, perfect for fat loss programs.
The only downside to MRP’s is price. They can get quite expensive, especially if you’re consuming two or three per day. Some can be fairly affordable, though. I typically find the pre-packaged ones easier to carry around with me (as opposed to buying a full tub).
Not all MRP’s are created equal. If you’re cutting and aiming for fat loss, try an MRP such as EAS Myoplex. They’re a bit pricier than others but they’re high quality and come pre-packaged. Met-Rx Meal Replacement is my 2nd choice brand, and a fair bit cheaper. Lastly, if you’re on a serious budget, check out Champion Ultra-Met.
